Russia’s underdog sledge hockey team defeated the United States in a 2-1 win at the Sochi Paralympics on Tuesday. The Russian team will move on to the semifinals as group winner in its first Paralympics event. The 2010 gold medal U.S.team will face Canada in its next match on Wednesday. Two Americans on the team are from Colorado. Niko Landeros and Tyler Carron were high school wrestlers from the town of Berthoud. Close friends and teammates the two were on their way home from a dance and were changing a tire when they were stuck by a vehicle and pinned between two SUV’s. Both young men became bilateral amputees. Landeros, who had played hockey for much of his life encouraged Carron to try sled hockey. Landeros made the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team in 2009. Carron joined the team in 2010.
